This week's quote: "The greatest innovation comes from the most unlikely intersections." - Frans Johansson

This week's life update: Two weeks in SF have felt like two months! My biggest observation since moving here is… how different urgency shows up from the east to west coast. While Toronto/NYC wear their busy calendars as badges of honour, the west coast hustles just as much but with a different energy - more "chill" on the surface but moving with incredible speed. Plans happen day-of or next-day rather than weeks in advance, which is probably why it feels like I've lived so many lives since arriving.

This is truly a city where dreams are built, so many people I’ve met move here to build their careers, so the energy of intentionality is everywhere.. I believe that’s how incredible connections happen. The serendipity here is magical - every conversation seems to open new doors and possibilities. Being surrounded by such brilliant minds and innovative thinkers has been incredibly energizing.

This week's reflection: Inclusivity drives innovation. My hot take: investors in women's health who aren't open to backing male founders in this space might be limiting progress. If the science is solid and could unlock better healthcare for women, we should be flexible and inclusive. There are brilliant men and non-binary folks building in women's health - let's welcome them! I'd love to see more diverse representation at women's health events (and yes, this applies to all events I post about - you're welcome unless otherwise specified!)

This Week's Deep Dive: AI in Women's Health

Gates Foundation leader highlights AI’s potential in women’s health At the World Economic Forum 2025 Annual Meeting - Anita Zaidi emphasized that AI could help bridge the gender data gap in healthcare, which is crucial for improving women's health outcomes and driving economic growth

Market Validation:

The 2025 AI Visionaries list is worth studying if you're building in this space. Looking at the honorees, there's particular momentum in:

  • Diagnostic AI

  • Menopause solutions

  • Obstetrics & gynecology tech

  • Data analytics for women's health

My take: Looking at these developments together, we're seeing a clear shift from point solutions to more integrated, AI-powered approaches. While AI presents enormous potential, success will depend on thoughtful implementation. The companies winning funding aren't just applying AI - they're solving fundamental problems in women's health with AI as an enabler, not the end goal.

Question for our community: While this momentum is incredible, and we’re seeing more women’s health focused companies getting funded, the question of, “is venture the best funding vehicle for all healthcare companies?” continuously comes up. The answer is “no” but I’m curious if anyone here has explored alternative funding pathways?
